What is merino?

What is merino?
Just as there are different breeds of dogs there are also different breeds of sheep. Merino is a sheep breed that is one of the toughest. It comes from Southern Mountain regions and endures extreme heat in summer and freezing cold in winter.

The amazing properties of merino wool are close to miraculous and it's not a surprise that the ones who get to know the material become raving fans and want nothing else but merino. Other materials don't even come close.

Stellar properties
of Merino wool
★★★★★

Unbelievable Softness
It feels incredible on the skin and it does not itch like the regular wool you might remember from your childhood. Merino wool has very fine fiber, finer then human hair so it is soft enough to be worn next to the skin.

Outstanding Thermo Regulation
To put it in very simple words merino wool will help you stay warm in the cold and cool in the heat. It’s like having your own personal air conditioner taking care of you wherever you go.

Excellent Moisture Management
The merino fiber is your personal moisture manager, it will absorb moisture from the skin and release it away from you, leaving you dry and comfortable. Merino wool can absorb up to 35% of its own weight of water before you will feel wet. Synthetic fabrics don't come even close to this.

Impressive Resilience
Wool can be extended by 30% of its length without breaking and, in turn, can recover from extensions of approximately 20%. So it is naturally stretchy and flexible which only adds to the comfort on the skin.

Unparalleled Odor Suppression
In odour resistance tests merino wool outperforms other fibers with its ability to resist the build-up of unpleasant smells. Odour molecules are absorbed and trapped into the merino fiber and merino wool does not have the odour build up problem the way synthetic fabrics do. It also feels cleaner longer and does not need to be washed as often as many other materials.

Absolutely Safe
Merino is naturally flame resistant, and its performance exceeds that of all other common fabrics. If merino comes into direct contact with fire, it won’t melt or stick, it is even used by firefighters and specialists working in extreme conditions.
